A large search and rescue operation was launched this morning, April 16, after concerns were raised for a woman in the water. A coastguard helicopter and RNLI lifeboats conducted the search near Brighton Palace Pier and along the coastline. Sussex Police has confirmed a woman in her 20s from Lewes has died.

HM Coastguard and RNLI teams are currently carrying out a search and rescue operation near Brighton Palace Pier. Emergency services were alerted to a report of a person in the water at around 4am today, April 16. Pictures show a coastguard search and rescue helicopter over Brighton seafront as well as RNLI lifeboats on the water.
