Biography

I've been a Reuters correspondent and bureau chief since 1998, working across Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Before returning to London as international affairs correspondent in mid-2019, I was bureau chief in Paris, and before that, I ran bureaus in Jerusalem and Brussels. Earlier in my career I had postings in Johannesburg, Rome, Baghdad and London. I've also spent time helping to run bureaus from Kabul to Cairo. I'm the author of "Dateline Baghdad" a lighthearted novel set among the Baghdad press corps after the 2003 invasion. I attended he University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a Morehead-Cain scholar and graduated in 1995 with a degree in English and international affairs. My first job in journalism was with the MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour (now PBS NewsHour) in New York.
