Heavy rains since Friday have caused the river to rise. As of 9 a.m. Sunday, April 6, the Black River at Black Rock had reached 29.7 feet. Roads around Main Street were completely submerged. Some highways in the surrounding areas were also closed due to water rushing over them. Jessica Medlock works at the Kum & Go off Highway 412. She’s also a member of the city council.

Captain Jay-Ryan Woods with the Poinsett County Sheriff’s Office said the county is mostly dealing with downed trees and power lines. The good news, he said there were no reports of damage to farm shops or residences. Although there was no major damage in the county, he considers everyone in the area lucky, especially looking at other parts of Northeast Arkansas.
