Biography
I'm a reporter at StarMetro Calgary. I spent the last few years in Toronto, where I was a digital editor on the Globe and Mail and Toronto Star desks at Pagemasters North America, and I also worked regular writing and editing gigs for Maclean's. I've reported for the Canadian Press and the Globe and Mail in Toronto, Voice of America in Washington, D.C., Avenue magazine in Calgary, the Edmonton Journal, Metro Edmonton and Vue Weekly. Before any of that happened, I sold my soul to the University of Alberta's student newspaper, The Gateway, where I worked as the arts & culture editor and managing editor. Back then, I was mostly a music writer, and I interviewed everyone from Owen Pallett to the late Oderus Urungus of GWAR. I later went on to a Master of Journalism at Ryerson University. My other work ranges from reporting on parent protests over changes to Ontario's sex-ed curriculum, analyzing Alberta's first NDP government and interviewing Canada's reigning polka king. My final master's project at Ryerson was a series on palliative care, medical aid in dying and death education. At the Globe, some of my work also focused on crime and justice — my staff send-off called me "the go-to reporter when a story involved a gun."
