Mady Camara is the News Assistant covering West and Central Africa for the New York Times. He assists the Bureau chief to produce original work from the region with an emphasis on supporting the accuracy and breadth of Times stories through newsgathering and research, and helping to promote Times journalism. Before coming to the Times, he worked as a Language and Cultural Teacher from 2015 to October 2020 for the US Peace Corps, facilitating Volunteers' Cultural adaptation and teaching local in Senegal. Mr. Camara also worked as a community economic development agent for a local NGO " LA LUMIERE" based in Senegal from 2012 to 1015- working on the struggle against child labor and women empowerment program. He has been working part time with some journalism companies like The Associated Press as well as assisted many PhD students conducting interviews in West Africa. Mady is very passionate about sharing stories with other people, learning new cultures, writing stories, teaching languages, and reading. He speaks about eight languages including English, French, Portuguese, and many West African languages such as Wolof( Senegal national language), Fulani, Mandingo, Bambara...
