Makarand R. Paranjape sought voluntary superannuation from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, in 2024 after being a full professor there for nearly twenty-five years. Earlier, he served as the Director, Indian Institute of Advanced Study. The author/editor of over 50 books, hundreds of academic papers, and thousands of newspaper and magazine articles, he is considered one of India’s leading public intellectuals. His latest books include "Mahatma Gandhi: Mrityu aur Punarutthan" (2024), "JNU: Nationalism and India’s Uncivil War" (2022) and "Swami Vivekananda: Hinduism and India’s Road to Modernity" (2020).
