Biography
After abandoning my Philosophy PhD, I drifted into Photography and have since worked freelance with publications to produce culturally aware visual content. Experience as an artist coupled with an academic background in identity politics is at the heart of how I direct Belmont Magazine. Without headers or subsections that announce features from/representing marginalised groups, I have chosen to include them among the familiar content. Since the need to elevate overlooked voices is a result of their erasure from mainstream platforms, as the editor-in-chief I aim to lead Belmont magazine in a direction where I give precedence, not exclusivity to those who would benefit from it in a hope that when trends fade, inclusivity as a normative will remain . This approach is certainly a risk because now more than ever we need to be unapologetic about our equality politics. Activism can however exist in many forms, at times very effectively in art, literature and in everyday conversations. Belmont Magazine is the gradual normalisation of Othered identities.
