I started my professional writing career as an essayist and humor writer for the (long departed) Sunday magazine of the Democrat and Chronicle. In a twist of fate — since I have never played golf in my life — I moved into writing about the people and courses of the PGA Tour. That led to me writing a cover story for Success Magazine on Jack Nicklaus’ business life. Then it was on to lifestyle articles for Jacksonville Magazine.
