To my disappointment, he told me the future was in pictures, not books. No one read anymore; they were too impatient even to sit through full movies. He didn’t have many connections in the literary community because he wasn’t convinced there was much of one. Happily—though he might’ve been right about our shrinking attention spans—he was wrong about that.
