Biography

Maria is a writer and journalist who lives in Washington, DC. She writes personal essays, features, and criticism. Maria holds a BA in Creative Writing - Nonfiction from Columbia University and an MA in Cultural Reporting and Criticism from New York University's Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute. In December 2021, she broke the story of a third woman who accused Sex and the City actor Chris Noth of sexual assault in The Daily Beast. Maria later wrote an op-ed for the same publication denouncing Noth's first interview in two years since his allegations. Her writing examines intersections of culture, power, ethics, mental health, and the arts. She's written op-ed's about actors in crisis, the future of journalism, and America's obsession with Taylor Swift. Last fall, Maria reported on Hollywood's double strike for the Los Angeles Times. Her work has been covered in New York Magazine, Vanity Fair, NPR, The Washington Post, and People and featured on Today and NBC News. Prose and poetry publications have appeared in Litro Magazine, The Coachella Review, KGB Literary Review, Quarto Magazine, Cathexis Northwest Press, and others. Originally from Charlottesville, Virginia, Maria trained in acting and musical theatre in New York City, where she worked for a decade as an actor before pursuing a career in writing. She cast and co-stars in an independent feature film set to release sometime this year. Maria is working on a novel based on my short story for The Coachella Review and a book of essays.
