Mark LaVenia is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Canterbury’s Child Well-being Research Institute, where he serves as National Assessment Coordinator for the Better Start Literacy Approach and leads professional learning initiatives in structured literacy. His work bridges research and practice, with a focus on literacy development, data-driven decision-making, and educational equity. Previously, Mark was a Data Strategist at EdReports, where he served as Project Lead for the widely referenced State of the Instructional Materials Market series and guided large-scale analyses of curriculum adoption and use across the United States.
