  • Strong Geomagnetic Storm Watch continues, see Northern Lights timing

By Mark Torregrossa Verified| MLive Verified The measurement of geomagnetic energy is high now. If this high energy stream continues after dark, Michigan will have a good chance at seeing northern lights. The Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) now says the Kp Index is 6. This means the geomagnetic energy is strong enough for northern lights to be see as far south as southern Michigan. This will be the case this evening if the stream of energy continues to hit our upper atmosphere.

  • Friday weather interesting in Michigan: Very warm, possible severe storms

By Mark Torregrossa Verified| MLive Verified The weather set-up Friday is going to be very different from what we’ve had so far this spring. A large temperature change over a small area will put half of Lower Michigan in a summer-like air mass. The high temperature map for Friday gives you a really good visual on this large temperature gradient from south to north. From Saginaw to Mount Pleasant to Big Rapids and southward the afternoon temperatures should soar to the 75 degree to 80 degree range.
