Biography
Martha Wade Steketee studied literature and theater at Harvard, social welfare at Washington University and the University of Michigan and worked in legal and policy research before becoming a dramaturg, critic, researcher, and editor. As a dramaturg, she reads scripts for theaters and festivals (including the O’Neill and Harvardwood competitions and the Public Theater’s Emerging Writers Group) and works with playwrights. As a writer she loves to explore theater topics and personalities and has written all editions of the Women Count reports on women hired on Off-Broadway productions. She recently served as Researcher on a Netflix limited series based on the biography "Simply Halston." She has been on theater awards committees in Chicago (Jeff Committee) and New York (current Drama Desk nominating committee chair), is a member of the Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas, and is past board chair of the American Theatre Critics Association. Her interest in theater design led her to be one of the founding editors of Chance Magazine that “looks at the world through the lens of theater and design” and service on the Henry Hewes Design Award committee.
