Biography

Matthew B. Mowery coordinates the writing staff at State Champs Network. He has spent the majority of the last 25 years covering sports for newspapers all around the state of Michigan, from preps to the pros, from Little League to the World Series. Before coming to State Champs, he spent seven seasons covering the Detroit Tigers for The Oakland Press and its affiliated newspapers. Winner of more than 20 awards for writing, headline writing and newspaper design, his most conspicuous accomplishment may be giving then-Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander his “Must-See JV” nickname during his Cy Young and MVP season in 2011.
