At around 2:43 a.m.., officers responded to the 3000 block of Fireside Road in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, they located a woman who had been shot inside a residence. Paramedics rushed the woman to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. This investigation remains ongoing.

(WAVY) — Portsmouth fire crews are working to evacuate nearly 150 inmates from the city jail after a fire started in basement. Portsmouth Sheriff Michael Moore told 10 On Your Side’s Kiahnna Patterson deputies noticed smoke around 1:45 a.m. this morning. Moore says the inmates were moved to lower floors because the smoke from the fire went up an elevator shaft, which has access to each floor of the jail.
