Currently I’m the healthcare reporter for GOVERNING magazine, covering the most important health issues impacting state and local governments. My words can also be found at NYMag.com, NationalGeographic.com, The Atlantic, USAToday.com, Foreign Policy and various other corners of the internet. I am originally from Little Rock, Ark. and attended Little Rock Central High, the site of forced desegregation during the Civil Rights Movement. Growing up with that kind of historical backdrop, I questioned everything around me from an early age. Professionally I typically cover public health, women’s issues and foreign affairs. Though I also have a soft spot for travel, music and pop culture writing, which I indulge on my personal blog. I’m happiest on my yoga mat, eating Thai food that’ll give me a runny nose and wandering bookstores (though not at the same time!) I’ve been a magazine hoarder since the age of 11.
