The lease was approved by the Nassau County Legislature in August. The lease allows Sands to operate a casino for 42 years, and requires that Sands keep the facility open for at least two years.

During the six-month monitoring period that ended on June 30, 2024, 16 of 61 homes tested showed lead levels above the acceptable limit of 15 parts per billion, set under the Safe Drinking Water Act. The law requires that no more than 10% of homes exceed this limit in compliance samples.
