By Megan Dean| Bundaberg Now Verified The Childers community will come together to commemorate the 25 year anniversary of the Palace Backpacker Hostel fire. On 23 June 2000 fire tore through the Palace building, killing 15 young backpackers. Bundaberg Regional Council has joined Queensland Police Service, Queensland Fire Department, Queensland Ambulance Service, Childers church leaders and a locally led performance group to coordinate commemoration activities.
By Megan Dean| Bundaberg Now Verified Bundaberg Regional Council advises the Moneys Creek tidal gates have been opened in an effort to improve water flow across the causeway which is currently impacted by flash flooding. Heavy rainfall and a build up of debris has impacted the area, making swimming conditions unsafe and necessitating the opening of the gates. The removal of the tide gates will be outside of the normal schedule.
