By Melody Cox Verified| KMBC-TV (Kansas City, MO) Verified An officer with the Kansas City Police Department is now recovering after a driver hit him with an all-terrain vehicle Saturday night.Officers were called to East Truman Road and South Main Street before 7 p.m. They found an officer who had been hit. Detectives say the driver of an ATV tried to avoid a deflation device the officer set up. The driver completed a stunt called a "wheelie" and hit the officer, causing him to fall. The ATV driver left the scene after driving over the officer.

Officers were called to East Mart-Way Circle around 9:54 p.m. The area is near Santa Fe Middle School and Washington Elementary School. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.Detectives contacted a 25-year-old man, and they took him into custody. Charges are pending. Police say there's no current threat to public safety.
