Biography

I've written and reported on various topics—incarceration, women's issues, finance, real estate, marketing, retail—for The Boston Globe, The Marshall Project, The Washington Post, Fusion, Advertising Age, UC Davis Magazine, Women's Wear Daily & Footwear News, and TheStreet.com, among others. I've also taught journalism at Northeastern University and Boston University. I contributed to the BU College of Communication's award-winning coverage of the Boston Marathon Bombings. My students have canvassed Greater Boston looking for "beat" stories, many of which have been published by Boston.com, the Boston Globe, and Boston Magazine. A couple years after I studied to become a childbirth educator, I came up with the idea to write about women who are incarcerated, pregnant, and potentially benefiting from groups that provide doula services during pregnancy, labor and delivery, and postpartum in jail. This story, which I worked on for nearly nine months, changed me in many ways, as a person and a journalist. I never take for granted people who choose to go on the record—the women I profiled were brave for sharing their stories, for understanding their words can help others, acknowledging of course that no one wants to give birth in jail. One month after the story ran, Massachusetts officially banned the shackling of laboring incarcerated women. I launched a small video production company called MDB Productions in fall 2016 working with clients who have short documentary style video needs. www.mdbvideo.com In 2020, I began working for Publicis Groupe as a writer. I eventually moved into an internal communications role where I help our Global Security Office with employee engagement and written articles; we want our employees to know that they are our strongest cybersecurity defense, and we use various multimedia tools to interact with them. I hold an M.A. in media innovation from Northeastern University and a B.S. in print journalism with a magazine concentration from Boston University. I also studied anthropology and French.
