The county has rules and restrictions on operating commercial kennels in residential neighborhoods, but currently, their acreage is not big enough to allow them to operate. To operate a commercial kennel to breed dogs, you must have five acres, no building structure within 100 feet of an abutting property, and written consent from at least 75% of neighbors within 300 feet of the property.

On March 24, Avondale police were called to the West Valley Islamic Center after receiving a welfare call about 37-year-old Iraq war veteran Michael Hanson. According to court documents, Hanson told officers that he was watching the film “American Sniper” and then searched for the nearest Muslim place of worship.
