Sgt. William Shemin demonstrated “extraordinary heroism and selflessness, above and beyond the call of duty,” in combat from Aug. 7 to Aug. 9, 1918, according to his Medal of Honor citation.

Aileen was born on February 10, 1941, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late David “Poppy” and Hilda “Nanny” Goldfeder (Radinsky). Aileen grew up with her parents and two younger brothers in University City, Missouri. She graduated from University City High School in 1960, and this was where she met her husband, Mark G. Weinstein and they were married after high school.
