I saw two avalanches pour over the cliffs as the sun hit the upper slopes on the mountains across the valley from Lake Louise Resort in Canada, where I was skiing. Several more crown lines from slides I didn’t witness appeared adjacent to the ski area before the lifts closed. Later, while walking at Lake Louise, I watched another avalanche flow like a waterfall for thousands of feet down to the lakeshore.

I have to admit, I’ve been a bit anxious about the trip as the date of my departure gets closer. It’s been years since I’ve lived with anyone besides my husband.
