Biography
An award-winning Egyptian journalist with over 15 years of experience, a researcher, and a human rights defender with 10+ years in the field. I endured four years in detention in Egypt as a prisoner of conscience for my work before fleeing to Lebanon and later relocating to Toronto. I awarded a 2024/2025 CJFE/Massey College journalism fellow. I am also part of PEN Canada’s Writers in Exile group and certified as a Human Rights Defender by Front Line Defenders. In 2024, I founded the REDWORD for Human Right & Freedom of Expression, a non-profit promoting freedom of expression while combating misinformation, fake news, and hate speech.
