On December 22, 2024, Preston passed away at the age of 76 years old after a battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. From 1986-1996, Preston set his sights on leading his alma mater in BHS to be one of the best football programs in all of California.

(KBAK/KBFX)- — The search is over and as Bakersfield College announces defensive coordinator, Tyler Thompson as their new head football coach. Thompson brings over 10 years of coaching experience, joining the BC Football coaching staff in back in 2014, where he served as an assistant coach. In 2019, he was promoted to defensive coordinator in 2019. Prior to BC, Thompson was an intern at the University of Maryland in 2013.
