The voices of the poor in a wealthy society are hard to hear, but also hard for a journalist to find. But Nalova Akua has taken a firm and bold decision to use every means possible to get their stories. Nalova is a dedicated journalist who is keen on exploring unexpected angles and equipped with years of prolific writing experience in different avenues. He has distinguished himself in the increasingly competitive media industry by writing stories that serve society, articles that give a voice to the unheard, and writing that puts the spotlight on issues that would otherwise have remained in the shadows. Nalova's works have appeared on the BBC, The Guardian (UK), Al Jazeera, The Epoch Times, El Pais, Columbia Journalism Review, African Arguments, inter alia. Nalova's works help society get a better understanding of what actually makes quality journalism, and how journalism can stay relevant – reaching new generations and creating impact across the increasingly complicated media landscapes. He is the 2022 winner of the Michael Elliott Award for Excellence in African Storytelling, an award that honours up-and-coming journalists in Africa who strive to strengthen people's voices and improve their well-being. It came with a reporting grant and a customized internship at The Economist headquarters in London. Later in 2023, Nalova was shortlisted for BBC Komla Dumor Award - an award established to honour Komla Dumor, an exceptional Ghanaian broadcaster and presenter for BBC World News, who died suddenly aged 41 in 2014. He has also been shortlisted for the True Story Award, which is a global journalism prize that aims to increase the diversity of perspectives in the media, organized by the True Story Foundation in partnership with Reportagen Festival Bern. Earlier in 2021, Nalova was among the five best young journalists from across Africa selected to attend and cover the Global Landscapes Forum as Climate Tracker Media Fellows which came with a long form storytelling grant. Nalova has also won the Francis Wache Inaugural Young Journalist Award which honours outstanding print journalism in Cameroon.
