JewÂish Book CounÂcil, foundÂed in 1943, is the longest-runÂning orgaÂniÂzaÂtion devotÂed excluÂsiveÂly to the supÂport and celÂeÂbraÂtion of JewÂish literature. InauÂguÂratÂed in 1950, the NationÂal JewÂish Book Awards is the longest-runÂning North AmerÂiÂcan awards proÂgram of its kind and is recÂogÂnized as the most presÂtiÂgious. The Awards are intendÂed to recÂogÂnize authors, and encourÂage readÂing, of outÂstandÂing EngÂlish-lanÂguage books of JewÂish interest. Through the JBC NetÂwork and Read On proÂgrams, JewÂish Book CounÂcil coorÂdiÂnates over 1,100 litÂerÂary events each year across North AmerÂiÂca. For authors, this is an opporÂtuÂniÂty to introÂduce their JewÂish-interÂest books to comÂmuÂniÂties across the counÂtry and beyond. For proÂgram direcÂtors, this is a chance to access a wide selecÂtion of JewÂish-interÂest authors for book fairs, fesÂtiÂvals, and culÂturÂal events. Paper Brigade, JBC's annual literary journal, is named in honÂor of the group of writÂers and intelÂlecÂtuÂals in the VilÂna GhetÂto who resÂcued thouÂsands of JewÂish books and docÂuÂments from destrucÂtion by the Nazis. The pubÂliÂcaÂtion reflects today's diverse JewÂish litÂerÂary landÂscape in AmerÂiÂca and abroad. Paper Brigade was a finalÂist for CLMÂP's 2018 FireÂcrackÂer Award for Best Debut Magazine. On Paper Brigade Daily, JBC publishes essays, interviews, reading lists, and more online each week. JBC Book Clubs proÂvides resources and supÂport to book clubs readÂing books of JewÂish interÂest. Find your next book club read or enhance your book club disÂcusÂsion with book reviews, disÂcusÂsion quesÂtions, annual reading guides, virÂtuÂal meet ups with memÂbers of othÂer book clubs, theÂmatÂic readÂing lists, and more.
