Biography

A news journalist and web content editor with over 11 years' experience, I am also qualified in media law and public affairs by the National Council for the Training of Journalists, as well as being up-to-date on current IPSO guidelines. My career so far is a varied one; I started in publishing back in 2007 at educational guidance publisher Hotcourses (now called IDP Connect) where I primarily sub-edited advertising copy for universities and colleges. Moving on in 2011, I spent six exciting years as part of Nevado Ltd's Theatreland portfolio of websites, writing SEO friendly, punchy promotional copy for West End and Broadway musicals, plays, pop concerts, ballet and classical music concerts, big-top arena shows like Marvel Live! and live comedy. During that time I also reviewed some of the West End's most popular shows including Book of Mormon, Wicked, Derren Brown Live, Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera. As I wanted to get more experience in writing news and have a more hands-on approach on managing websites, I joined urban renewal consultant 3Fox International in 2017 to late 2018, covering news on property development, environment, council elections and urban regeneration. I managed 16 websites, leading the launch from design to going live, on six of them. Later on I reported on news from the independent financial advice industry for CityWire's New Model Adviser magazine, and property news at Property Week; you can find my portfolio of stories here. I most recently worked with The Daily Telegraph's Digital Production Team where I transformed the printed newspaper's news stories and features for the iPad edition, during its changeover from using an outdated content system to an exciting new one. This project completed in April 2020, just as COVID-19 restrictions came into force across the country and changed everybody's working habits completely. And here I am! I can confidently write accurate, mistake-free news stories, and sub-edit and proofread the work of other journalists for both print and web. I adapt quickly to using new content management systems and can confidently use Adobe Photoshop and Indesign where needed.
