The rhetoric of the Yes campaign was heady - that Wales could at last take decisions which could reverse decades of economic and social decline. While the powers and competence of what is now the Welsh Parliament and Government have grown, after a quarter of a century of devolution Cymru is the poorest nation of the UK.

Its 2024 general election findings have yet to be formally published, but Professor Richard Wyn Jones and Dr Jac Larner of the WGC offered a breakfast briefing on 7 November. It was a revealing snapshot of the state of Welsh party politics as we went to the polls to elect a Westminster government.
