In 2017, she furthered her academic pursuits by completing a Master of Jurisprudence in Intellectual Property at The John Marshall Law School, now part of the University of Chicago in Illinois Law School. Concurrently, her role as a Senior Communications Coordinator at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine, Buehler Center for Health Policy & Economics, began in February 2019, following a position transfer from Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital. Her journey in the realm of communications started earlier, with significant roles at Columbia College Chicago’s ColumbiaLinks as a Journalism Mentor and the American Medical Association, where she supported Governance and Risk Management staff from August 2008 to October 2010, and managed Content Management Systems and Records at the Journal of the American Medical Association from July 2007 to March 2008. Beyond her professional roles, Nia is deeply passionate about the intersection of journalism and education. Recognizing the pivotal role community colleges play in shaping local journalism.
