NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center says a severe geomagnetic storm is ongoing with a planetary k-index above 7 as of 5:15 p.m. Eastern on April 16. When the k-index is above 7, Southern New England has a chance to see the Northern Lights.
By Nick Russo Verified| WJAR-TV (Cranston, RI) Verified The Marine Animal Entanglement Response (MAER) team at the Center for Coastal Studies in Provincetown is working to disentangle a young North Atlantic right whale in Cape Cod Bay. The MAER team out of Provincetown removed some gear from the whale on April 10, but were unable to completely disentangled the whale. The whale is identified as right whale #5110, a five year old male first seen entangled in fishing gear southeast of Nantucket in December 2024.
