Last night, as Mike Pence refused to obey debate rules and spoke over his opponent, a fly landed in his hair. It sat still for some time as Pence blithered on. It had found its bloated host, a rotting corpse, the dead remains of a moral terror. It was content. There were many substantive issues brought up in last night’s debate.

I live in East Boston, right by the airport. The only sounds I usually hear in the morning are the sound of commercial airliners taking off and the neighbors recreating the entirety of the movie Animal House. But, by God, those chickens. They were loud, raucous beasts. They crowed so loud that the jet engines were but a hushed hum. They woke me up from a dead sleep.
