Biography
Nicole LaPorte is a journalist living in Venice, Calif., and the author of The Men Who Would Be King: Moguls, Movies, and a Company Called DreamWorks. She writes the monthly Prototype column for The New York Times Sunday Business section, and is a frequent contributor to The Daily Beast/Newsweek, where she was formerly the Senior West Coast reporter. After a four-year stint at The New Yorker, working in what was then known as the “typing pool,” and later as an assistant to senior editors, LaPorte spent a year as a reporter in Louisiana before joining Variety to write about film in 2003. In 2007, she left to work on her book, while also writing the Rules of Hollywood column for The Los Angeles Times Magazine. In addition, she wrote about the entertainment business and culture for The New York Observer. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, The New York Observer, The Los Angeles Times, W, The London Sunday Telegraph, and Los Angeles Magazine.
