Sylvia Luke signed an Emergency Proclamation Thursday morning in response to the ongoing Crater Road Fire, which has been burning since Wednesday evening, and is estimated at 500 acres. The governor's proclamation authorizes the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency to help in emergency response efforts. It also allows the Adjutant General to activate the Hawaii National Guard.

  • Maui's Crater Road brush fire burns through 420 acres

    By Nuy Cho Verified| Spectrum News 1 Worcester Verified On Maui, on Haleakala Crater Road Fire, a fire started Wednesday evening and so far has burned 420 acres of land. The Maui Fire Department reported that the fire is 50% contained as of Thursday at 5:30 p.m. MFD ground and air crews have stopped the fire’s forward progress and also dozers have cut control lines around most of the fire’s perimeter. It said that two helicopters are active, and that the fire is located at the 7,000-foot elevation.
