Biography
Ms Yekini Olubunmi is a multiple award-winning broadcast journalist. She started her broadcasting career as a content creator, reporter and producer with Metro FM (Radio Nigeria) in 2008 where she was in charge of the station’s health program - My Doctor and I. she was also the producer of the station’s flagship breakfast program - ‘AM Lagos Live’ and other programs like Vigilance, a security and safety program, ‘Lagos Life’ - a program that talks about the everyday life of people living in Lagos and ‘Streets of Lagos’ - a program that talks about the history behind names of the various streets in Lagos. In 2014 she was redeployed to Radio One, 103.5FM (Radio Nigeria) a talk station where she was the producer of the station's flagship breakfast programme 'This Morning on Radio OneOnehe was also the producer of the station's family health programme - ‘Health Connect' among several other programmes and reports. In 2010 she was commissioned by IRIN Radio - an International radio to report HIV/AIDS, Maternal and Child health issues in Nigeria. In 2011 she was also commissioned by The Abidjan – Lagos Corridor Organization - ALCO, to produce reports on HIV/AIDS along the transport corridors of Nigeria. ALCO is an organization saddled with the responsibility of reducing HIV/AIDS transmission along the corridors of Five West African States, Nigeria, the Republic of Benin, Cote d’Ivoire, Togo and Ghana. She worked with the West Africa Newsmedia and Development Agency - WANAD as a reporter on HIV/AIDS Issues and Maternal and Child Health. She later became the focal point, Nigeria for WANAD in 2012. Ms Yekini is interested in public interest journalism. She has worked in several underreported communities in Lagos where Locals are deprived of basic social needs such as primary healthcare services, and access to potable water and electricity, with her reports she has got the government to pay attention to these communities and bring succour to these people. She is one of the Wanadata - female journalists that produce Data-driven reports for Code for Africa/Code for Nigeria. She is currently working as a senior producer, reporter and podcaster with Radio Now, 95.3FM. Her awards include the Red Ribbon award of the Journalists Against AIDS, JAAIDS- Nigeria for the Best Radio Feature on HIV/AIDS, 2021, The Nigeria Media Merit Awards–NMMA Radio Reporter of the year 2013/2014, Second Runner-up, Female Reporters Leadership Program 2017 of The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism. She is the Media Ambassador for The New HIV/AIDS Vaccine and Microbicides Advocacy Society, NHVMAS Nigeria, an alumnus of the US Government Exchange Program (IVLP), a member of the Wole Soyinka’s Report Women Network and a member of the Holland Alumni Network and also a member of the Women’s Global Investigative Journalism Network. She is a volunteer mentor at the Skill Out School Foundation, Abuja, and a Maternal and Child Health Advocate. She is currently serving her second term in office as the Vice-Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists - NAWOJ, Lagos State Chapter.
