My journalism career has spanned 35 years, including a combined quarter century at the Los Angeles Times, San Diego Union-Tribune and the Los Angeles Daily News. My skill set includes supervising the nightly sports copy-desk operations and a track record of meeting multiple daily production deadlines. Working with writers of varying skill level, I practiced sound news judgment and expert-level knowledge of AP style while ensuring fairness, clarity and accuracy. I have extensive experience editing and polishing articles, including writing captions and award-winning headlines. I have utilized electronic news-gathering techniques to manage the flow of content (copy and photos) across print, digital and social media platforms. As a senior writer, my experience included researching, interviewing, reporting, analyzing, editing and writing authoritatively on complex, issue-oriented subjects. In 2012, I launched P.K. Daniel Sports Media, a boutique editing and writing company. My clients included Allergy & Asthma Today, American Sports Network, Baseball America, CBS Sports' MaxPreps, Lower Extremity Review, MVP Parent, San Diego Union-Tribune, SB Nation and Team USA. I developed a niche area of focus, writing on sports medicine and health issues, including covering the topics of concussions, ACL injuries, asthma in sports, and sudden cardia death and commotio cordis occurrence. I have also been engaged in enterprise/investigative writing that has led to the implementation of new policies, as well as the forced resignation of coaches who had been accused of bullying and abusive behavior. In 2023, I rebranded PK Daniel Sports Media and launched an LLC, PK: The Write Way, an editorial services company. Some of my clients include UCLA, University of Maryland and the University of Tampa. I teach a quarterly journalism/copy editing workship for UCLA Student Media. I have also done academic editing for graduate-level research papers for UCLA and have contributed to alumni publications of U of MD and Tampa.
