Dr. Pamela Palmater is an Indigenous lawyer, professor, best-selling author, and an award-winning podcaster specializing in law, politics, human rights, and Indigenous peoples. Pam has 200+ publications in major media outlets like the Toronto Star, Globe & Mail, Lawyer's Daily, Maclean's, Chatelaine, Canadian Dimension, Lawyer's Daily, Policy Options, CBC, CTV, APTN and TVO. She also has three books: Warrior Life: Indigenous Resistance and Resurgence (Fernwood); Indigenous Nationhood: Empowering Grassroots Citizens (Fernwood); and Beyond Blood: Rethinking Indigenous Identity (Purich/UBC press). Warrior Life was a best-seller in the Toronto Star and Globe & Mail A lawyer in good standing for 25 years, Pam has four university degrees, including a BA from St. Thomas in Native Studies; an LLB from the University of New Brunswick, and her Masters and Doctorate in Law from Dalhousie University, specializing in Indigenous law. Pam is a well-known public speaker and media commentator, considered one of Canada’s Top 25 Influential Movers and Shakers by the Financial Post and the Top 5 Most Influential Lawyer in Human Rights by Canadian Lawyer Magazine. She has been recognized with many awards for her social justice advocacy on behalf of First Nations generally, and Indigenous women and children specifically, including the 2012 YWCA Woman of Distinction Award in Social Justice, 2012 Women’s Courage Award in Social Justice, and the Margaret Mead Award in Social Justice 2016, to name a few. Pam is also a member of the following Indigenous professional associations: NAISA - Native American and Indigenous Studies Association; IJA - Indigenous Journalists Association (formerly NAJA); IBA - Indigenous Bar Association; CBA - Canadian Bar Association; and LSNB - Law Society of New Brunswick. Pam is a citizen of the Mi'kmaw Nation, a member of Ugpi-ganjig (Eel River Bar First Nation, and a registered "Indian" (First Nations person) under the Indian Act. Her Nation is what is known as a border tribe, with reserves/reservations in both Canada and the USA.
