I have worked in public affairs roles since the late 1980s, most recently as General Manager of Government and Media Relations with the Australian HR Institute (AHRI) from 2002 to 2020. Prior to that, my working life in public affairs included jobs as a ministerial speech writer in the Victorian Government (1989-93) and publishing roles with Deakin University (1993-2002) and the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Board (1987-1989). I have drafted published material as a corporate ghost writer in outlets such as The Australian Financial Review, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Canberra Times and Guardian Australia. During that time, I published sparingly under my own by-line. By Paul Begley| Pearls and Irritations@ Following the federal Cabinet reshuffle announced by Anthony Albanese on Sunday, the media focus was on him moving Home Affairs Minister Clare ONeil and Immigration Minister Andrew Giles. The ABCs Courtney Gould reported that the PM stressed the changes shouldn’t be construed as a failure on their part, and rejected suggestions the reshuffle was linked to criticism over the government’s handling of the portfolios.
