Biography
I am an internationally educated senior consultant, award-winning reporter and journalism educator, with almost 20 years of experience in nonprofit and cutting-edge investigative journalism. I am passionated about OpenData, Right to Information, Transnational Collaboration, Artificial Intelligence and Innovative Storytelling. My multicultural background (which includes living in eight countries) allows me to thrive by leading diverse teams in a truly inclusive way and helping people and organizations understand each other to work towards a common purpose. I currently serve as a consultant at the Innovation in Citizen Services Division of the Inter-American Development Bank, training reporters in the Americas on how to follow public money using Open Data. So far, I have trained almost 300 journalists in the Dominican Republic, Panama, Honduras and Costa Rica. I am also the Vice-President of América Transparente –an NGO that uses technology to help people access Public Information–, and the Cofounder and Editor of La Pública, an online media that uses the Transparency Law to cover Human Rights stories in Chile. My passion for journalism and its education leads me to also work as an in-demand lecturer and trainer at universities and institutions across the world, and as a freelance reporter for transnational projects and foreign media. My work has been recognized with the Sigma Awards for Data Journalism and the Excellence in Journalism Award from the Inter American Press Association. I have also received an honorific mention in the Latin American Award on Investigative Journalism from IPYS, and I have been nominated for three years in a row for the Journalism of Excellence Award at Alberto Hurtado University in Chile, which recognizes the finest journalism of the country every year. Furthermore, I have been a Pulitzer Center Grantee, a Lupa Fellow from the International Center For Journalists (ICFJ), and an Edward R. Murrow Fellow from the International Visitor Leadership Program of the State Department of the U.S.A. In the educational field, I was given the Award for Excellence in Teaching from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, being recognized among 3.600 professors for my unique innovative teaching method and the inspiring and empowering connection I established with my students. My journalistic stories have been published in such outlets as BBC Mundo, NPR, Aristegui Noticias, Univision, Ciper Chile, among others.
