Biography

I’m an independent photojournalist, a specialist in off-beat, nocturnal and unusual cultural stories. Originally from the north of England, I’m now based between Latin America and London, balancing shooting my own projects with working on editorial and commercial commissions. A background in the underground along with extensive travels has given me an understanding of culture, environment, urbanity and humanity as broad as it is humble. I’m still fascinated and astonished by life on a daily basis. I’m a photojournalist through and through, and I apply this approach to travel, NGO and commercial work. Since going pro in 2011 I’ve been working for some great clients including the Washington Post, BBC, GEO, the Guardian Magazine, National Geographic Traveller, Lufthansa magazine, the Telegraph, New Scientist, El Pais, the Independent, Dazed, Huck, and Vice. I’ve also worked for commercial clients such as ASOS, Pearson Ed, American Express, Christies, UK Arts Council, London 2012 Olympics, the REA, Age UK, the West Indies Cricket Team and many others. In 2014 I crowd funded and self published my first book ‘Free to Party’ about the UK’s Free Party (illegal rave) culture, a subject very close to my heart, and what could be described as a photographic going home. I believe personal qualities are as important as photographic ones in the field, so in addition to an awareness of light, colour, detail and composition, it’s my communication, persistence and storytelling abilities have enabled me to work in this vocation, that is so much more than a job.
