Biography
I am an independent documentary photographer and journalist based in Italy. I write articles, conduct interviews, and create carefully captioned photo essays in both Italian and English. My work primarily focuses on human stories within their cultural or subcultural contexts, exploring their social, political, and economic ramifications. I pay special attention to how traditional lifestyles evolve and adapt to new realities, with particular emphasis on the impact of climate change. As a freelance photographer since 2002, I have worked across the Middle East, South America, Africa, the Pacific Ocean, and the Balkans. My coverage spans cultural, social, and political issues, from the disappearance of ancient traditions and gentrification to refugee crises, street protests, and terrorist attacks. After settling in Turkey in 2011, I began contributing to the Italian daily "La Repubblica" and various international media outlets and agencies. During my time there, I covered the mass protests of 2013-2014, terrorist attacks in 2015-2016, and the influx of Syrian refugees. I reported live from Ankara during the July 15th coup attempt for major international outlets. Following my return to Italy due to family circumstances, I continued covering Turkish political and social issues through articles, interviews, and analyses, with particular focus on Turkey's relations with Italy and the EU. Now based in Genoa after a brief hiatus, I travel extensively throughout Italy, Europe, and the Mediterranean region, seeking stories that often escape mainstream media attention but deserve to be told for their social, cultural, or visual significance. I write professionally in both Italian and English. While English is my primary language of thought, I can navigate conversations in Spanish and French, and possess sufficient Turkish language skills for daily life and building relationships. I maintain a newsletter on Substack and I am active on Bluesky. I can be reached via email, WhatsApp, or Signal messaging.
