Biography

Prakruti Bhatt is a journalist who mainly covers music, technology, and pop culture. She has written for Hyperallergic, the Times of India and Mumbai Mirror. When Bhatt's not being picky about selecting just the right songs for her monthly Spotify playlists, she's looking for the next book or video game to immerse herself in. In May 2022, Bhatt graduated with an MA in Journalism, with a specialization in Arts & Culture, from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism in New York City. During the program, she has written about the upcoming NFT museum in NYC, which was subsequently published by Hyperallergic, as well as profiled artists including "bad animator" Danny Casale, who has over three million followers across social media platforms. Previously, Bhatt led the international and pop-culture desks at the Times of India (Digital) for over three years. During her time with the publication, she established #MusicWithMirror -- a section which extensively featured musicians, songwriters and producers from across the world. The idea originated from her firm belief that music will always be that one art form that transcends all barriers such as language or culture. With this coverage – which included exclusive features of Lauv, Anne-Marie, LANY, Dua Lipa, RADWIMPS, Nikhil d’Souza, HONNE, and BTS’ producers ARCADES among many more – the brand’s readership grew exponentially. The section alone regularly garnered half-a-million impressions. Bhatt also pioneered the coverage of Korean music and theater in India via interviews with K-Pop bands and soloists, and frequently covered releases and press conferences by established groups such as BTS. This coverage alone increased the publication’s social media reach by thousands. Simultaneously, she worked on video packages, adding a multifaceted layer to her stories. With a keen eye for trends, stories that increase audience engagement and analytics, she also looked over the brand’s social media accounts to increase the reach of her features -- be it via interactive Instagram stories or Twitter threads. As a journalist and part of a publication that mainly focused on politics, she also took on breaking news and switched base when needed.
