On Tuesday, April 16, crews started putting the $8 million amphitheater together. Using a large crane, construction crews lifted the first major steel hoop of the amphitheater structure into place, at about 53 feet tall. Clay Simmons, Lynchburg's Deputy Director of Public Works, said the structure can now stand on its own. It's an exciting day.

In January, the middle school was closed for nearly six weeks after a stove was allegedly leaking carbon monoxide gas. When students returned in March, some complained of an ammonia-like smell, prompting further investigation.
