Biography
Hello! I am glad you found your way to my Muck Rack Profile. Here you can find everything about my work as an assistant professor of International Relations at Webster Vienna Private University and my podcast, The 1020 (now also on YouTube). My main field of research is political theory and international relations, with a particular emphasis on how culture, values, and ideologies influence state behaviour. I have written and published about the interplay of culture and identity and how it affects social capital formation and social cohesion. Besides my academic work I am always happy and honored to provide my expertise on contemporary US politics and world affairs for national and international broadcasters, including Sky News Australia and The Hill TV. You can also find my commentary on political issues in newspapers such as the Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Unherd, Spiked, the Jerusalem Post, the Washington Examiner, the American Spectator, Die Presse, Der Standard, and the Wiener Zeitung among others. All of my journalistic work can be found here as well - including some articles & interviews in German here. I am also a geopolitical consultant who has advised Austrian politicians and organizations in the past. I take both pleasure and pride in my work, so feel free to reach out if you think there are areas of possible collaboration or cooperation. Contact Ralph G. By Ralph Schoellhammer| Brussels Signal Verified I always found the story behind the “Made in Germany” label interesting. Originally the term “Made in Germany” served as a derogatory label rather than a hallmark of excellence. Introduced by the British Parliament in 1887, it aimed to alert consumers to the presence of so-called ‘inferior’ German goods flooding the market. The immediate associations were decidedly negative—cheapness and poor quality.
By Ralph Schoellhammer| Brussels Signal Verified Ah, the United States and foreign policy—a tale as old as time, or at least as old as Woodrow Wilson’s Fourteen Points. Here we have a nation that bestrides the globe like a colossus, yet somehow manages to trip over its own shoelaces with alarming regularity. The question isn’t whether America is good at foreign policy—it’s whether it’s even trying. Let’s start with the obvious: America is an empire in denial.
By Ralph Schoellhammer| Brussels Signal Verified Is there any rhyme or reason to what seems like the latest episode of “Tariffs Gone Wild”? This question hovers over European policymakers as the United States, under its bombastic showman-in-chief, slaps tariffs on nations left, right, and centre—with allies sometimes catching it worse than adversaries. I’ve got my theories, and while crystal balls are hard to come by, indulge me as I unravel what might be the method behind the madness. And, oh Europe—especially you, Germany—take notes.
