Biography

Dr. Richard J. Reddick is the inaugural Associate Dean for Equity, Community Engagement, and Outreach for the College of Education and Associate Professor in Educational Leadership and Policy, with courtesy appointments in the Department of African and African Diaspora Studies, and the Center of African and African American Studies. Additionally, he is the Assistant Director of the Plan II Honors Program. Dr. Reddick is also a fellow with the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement and the Institute for Urban Policy Research and Analysis, all at The University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Reddick is also the faculty co-chair of the Institute for Educational Management at Harvard University. His research focuses on several areas: the experiences of Black faculty and faculty of color at predominantly White institutions; mentoring and developmental relationships between faculty and Black students; and work-life balance in academia. Reddick's research has been published in the American Educational Research Journal (AERJ), Harvard Educational Review (HER), Urban Education, and has been featured on NPR, PBS, the BBC, and the Associated Press, and has been supported by the Spencer Foundation, the William T. Grant Foundation, and the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation Dr. Reddick holds a master’s and doctorate in higher education from Harvard University, and a bachelors from The University of Texas at Austin. Originally from the Dove Springs community in Southeast Austin, Dr. Reddick is married and the father of two children, serves on the boards of two public charter schools, and is actively engaged in organizations focused on improving the quality of life for Black citizens of Austin, Texas. A game show maven, Reddick is a Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! champion.
