Perhaps that is because we also like to savor moments in much the same way we like to savor the smoky smell of barbecue being slowly cooked over a wood fire. Maybe that’s why goodbyes often are delivered more slowly among Southerners. Indulge me for a few minutes, if you’d be so kind. I turn 67 on Monday and that seems a good day to retire.
