Courtesy Ian HaysomA statement on the Mount Washington Alpine Resort website says the ski hill is closed today, January 21st due to heavy snow and high risk of avalanche. Travellers are advised not drive on the road to the resort. Mount Washington has received 80 cm of new snow overnight and 105 cm in the last 24 hours. Mount Cain, which received 90 cm of snow in the last 24 hours, is open and all lifts are operating.

  • Powerful windstorm knocks out power and delays ferries | CHEK

    By Rob Germain| CHEK-TV (Victoria, BC) Verified Wind gusts up to 80 km/h knocked out power Sunday morning to more than 30,000 BC Hydro customers on Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands and the Lower Mainland. The wind also cancelled or delayed BC Ferries sailings on the major routes and sailings to the Gulf Islands and the Sunshine Coast. The next sailing from Swartz Bay is expected at 11 am.
