Biography
Cut my teeth on muckraking around same time I taught myself to type. Growing up in 70s-era newsrooms, a knee-high view of civil rights abuses and general corruption among elected officials and law enforcement, I gravitated to the underbelly of society and the global community. My tastes for subjects were shaped by these early experiences, riding shotgun with my father on his newspaper beat. Plenty of times my photos would get published with his articles well before I was 10. The drive to create and express through writing and photography compelled me through my youth and into adulthood, providing a natural transition from unemployed to full-time as soon as I realized money was a necessity (and clock-punching 9-to-5s weren't). Breaking into national markets also opened a global portal; covering a varied assortment of left-of-center assignments wherever I roamed provided my editors with good copy; photography as part of skill set afforded an advantage as "package deal." The full-time freelance writer suffers from independence, making a genetic predisposition to hustling my most indulged pastime. Penthouse, Razor, Black Book, Black Belt, Soldier of Fortune, a short story anthology, scores of other publications foreign and domestic, websites/blogs, copywriting; 3-decades of daily journal keeping; a 3-year stint crash-coursing in financial dissolution and mortgage fraud creating HPN.com series, "DEBT AND GONE," leading to Internet freedom of almost-outlawed information 21st century; and transitional journalism from short-form status posts to sprawling longform covering bitcoin protocol and cypherpunk revolutionaries. Always headquartered in my deep-rooted Deep South, I found myself the editor of a small weekly, The Berrien Press for a year and a half before returning to freelance life in order to explore tech topics, like bitcoin/cryptocurrencies/blockchain and artificial intelligence. Constant globetrotting has slowed down in the last decade as I think of my novel, and non-fiction memoir/analyses of growing up around killers and ghosts. The story isn't finished. A writer writes. Always. R
