We’d just wrapped up a joint training exercise with the Polish artillery called Victory Strike, which lasted several weeks. Most of that time, we were deep in the woods, moving and firing rockets into the training area. It was my first real field assignment. Despite the tough weather, learning a new job, and being away from civilization for weeks, I felt good about where I was.
