In October last year, two 30-metre-tall grain silos collapsed at Manildra Group's Shoalhaven Starches plant in Bomaderry. SafeWork NSW launched an investigation into the collapse, and has carried out multiple compliance checks at the plant throughout February and March.

Appin Mine operator, GM3, confirmed the incident took place early Sunday morning, sparking an emergency response and the halt of mining operations "until further notice". NSW Ambulance attended the colliery on Douglas Park Drive about 3am after reports four men were trapped up to their waist in coal.
